Design and Simulation of a Printed 5G Monopole Antenna on Vehicle Window Glass

In recent years, vehicle communication systems have bourgeoned, especially in Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. Of course, they need 5G antennas to maintain stable link whilst driving in changing environment; and that poses an enormous engineering undertaking. To avoid modifying the vehicle structure or adding new structure to the vehicle, 5G engineers have no choice but print the communication antennas on the vehicle window’s glass.  As a matter of fact, even if the original vehicle did not have such a system, it can easily be added during the lifetime of the vehicle.  Printing antennas on window glass is not new but it has been limited to frequencies less than 1GHz.  However, printing 5G antenna on glass is a brand-new research topic that requires new tools, especially to satisfy the linear polarization requirement of 5G vehicle communication.

To contribute to this research effort, we took a printed 5G monopole antenna design from the Journal of Applied Science and simulate it using our virtual prototyping antenna software, HFWorks.  In this webinar, we will show you step-by-step how HFWorks was used to simulate the antenna.  We will also show you a comparison of HFWorks results to the published data.  We will conclude by some recommendation from the published article and our own findings.
