In recent years, hyperthermia based on microwaves, has become a mainstream treatment of cancerous cells, especially for breast cancer, due to its proven efficiency, safety, and non-invasiveness; however, it relies heavily on the quality of the applicator antenna.  The hyperthermia applicator must carefully direct the high frequency waves, thus the heat, to only the cancerous tumor, at a precise dosage, while avoiding the damage of the surrounding healthy tissue; it is indeed a daunting and challenging engineering endeavour. As a matter of fact, it may take years, in addition to the animal and clinical studies, to obtain the approval from regulatory bodies such as the FDA.  It boils down to the precise design of the applicator antenna.

In this webinar, we will show you how to use the virtual prototyping antenna software, HFWorks, to design and simulate a Tapered Slot Antenna Array to be used for the treatment of breast cancer.  We will show both the high frequency electromagnetic and thermal aspects of the simulation.
