Design and Optimization of a PMSM for a Wind Turbine

With the rapid growth in global energy needs, wind turbines have emerged as a reliable solution to face the problem of climate and ecological changes. Direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) used in wind turbines have received significant attention thanks to the elimination of gearbox noise and their low maintenance cost. PMSGs provide a high energy efficiency and a better permanent magnet yield. In addition, the absence of a circuit exciter reduces the maintenance cost of the generator’s rotor and minimizes its losses, which helps achieve a better thermal effectiveness and a higher performance.
In this webinar, we will show you how to design a permanent magnet synchronous generator, used for wind turbines by considering an analytical model and optimizing it using EMWorks2D software. We will focus on the following aspects:
       - Importance of the permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) for wind
          turbine applications,
       - Analytical modeling of a PMSM,
       - Validation of the designed model using EMWorks2D software,
       - Optimization of the designed PMSM model.
